Training a dog to ring a bell to go outside can’t be this easy.

marseeah:

After approximately 24 hours of trying to bell train Madeline, and about a half hour after her afternoon walk, she rang her bell. I immediately took her outside, making her ring the bell again on her way out.

It was raining, so I was only going to take her on our “short walk” route, just to associate the bell ringing with going outside.

And at the first place that she could possibly pee, she peed. And I gave her a treat and lots of praise and turned around and went back inside.

I am in the BEST mood right now.

A friend of mine did this, and the dog learned quickly. Even more amazing, though, is her neighbor’s cat learned to do the same thing, by WATCHING THE DOG.
